my sitka saga

"the real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." -marcel proust

"When I saw the little girl starving and cold, I asked God, 'Why didn't you do anything?' God replied, "I did do something- I made you."

Introduction to the Saga

It's pretty common knowledge among my friends and family that I am fairly obsessed with Regis University.  In addition to snow days, ridiculous performances,  and prank calling University Ministry, I loved every opportunity to learn more about the ideas and beliefs behind the Jesuit tradition.  At Regis, I began to learn the difference between charity and social justice, how complicated being truly sustainable really is, and the importance of community.  The people I met through working in student activities, classes, mass, community clean-ups, the recycling program, the community garden, and even registering for classes taught me how to approach everyone I meet with respect and humility.

Naturally, with all that said, as graduation began looming over my head, I had to find an opportunity to solidify these beliefs and learn more about the Jesuits after Regis kicked me out (or so it seemed).  I hope to continue to develop these things I learned about friendships, community living, social justice, servant leadership, and spirituality in my year as a Jesuit Volunteer in Alaska.
